Tournelle bridge paris 360 pict

Tournelle bridge connects the fourth arrondissement, in the Ile Saint-Louis, in the fifth arrondissement, on the Quai de la Tournelle.
The site of the bridge Tournelle has undergone many successive crossing the Seine. In the Middle Ages there existed a wooden bridge, half washed away by a flood on 21 January 1651, which was rebuilt in stone in 1656. Demolished in 1918, he was replaced by the current bridge in 1928.
Le pont de la Tournelle is deliberately skewed to highlight dyssimétrie the landscape of the Seine at this point. Composed of a large central arch connected to shore by two smaller arches, is decorated on the left side by a tower of about 15 m surmounted by a statue of St. Genevieve, patroness of Paris, conducted by Paul Landowski. The term "Tournelle" comes from the presence in this place in the twelfth century of a turret of the wall of Philippe Auguste replaced later by a small castle.
